18-19 December 2014, King's College London
The subject of non-equilibrium quantum systems has seen a surge of research activity in recent years. This has been triggered in part by surprising advances in the understanding of classical systems out of equilibrium, including fluctuation relations generalizing Onsager's relations and exact results in a variety of models. Recent research has demonstrated the possibility of extending these to the quantum realm, where the interplay between quantum dynamics and many-body non-equilibrium physics is crucial. Techniques and ideas of quantum integrability and field theory have played important roles, as well as advances in numerical algorithms.
This workshop on the mathematical physics of non-equilibrium quantum systems will bring together theoretical and mathematical physicists in order to make the point on the recent technical advances and their relations with fundamental ideas. The workshop will encourage communication between various communities working in the area. Although the emphasis is on quantum systems, classical aspects will be covered as well in order to provide a good overview of the subject.
This workshop is a group event of the Mathematical and Theoretical Physics Group of the Institute of Physics (IoP) and a Focus Workshop of the EPSRC NetworkPlus on Emergence and Physics far from Equilibrium.
Financial support is generously provided by the IOP and the EPSRC NetworkPlus. The workshop is also co-sponsored by the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Cross-Disciplinary Approaches to Non-Equilibrium Systems (CANES) at King’s College London.
